These African Female DJs are Changing the Entertainment Landscape

African women are exceptional, and this skill cuts across every sector. In the entertainment industry, female DJs are rocking the waves with their incredible sound and sights.

The Incredible Florence Otedola also known as DJ Cuppy
graduated from King’s College London in July 2014, with a degree in Business and Economics. She also holds a Masters Degree. She started her career in 2014 when she was the resident DJ at the MTV Africa Music Awards. She has toured a couple of African cities and released several singles. In an interview, she described her sound as “Neo-Afrobeats”, which is a fusion of Electro house and Afrobeats.

ZINHLE JIYANE also known as DJ Zinhle describes herself as the NO 1 female DJ in Africa. Her brother reportedly taught her how to mix and her first gig happened when her brother had an event and the DJ was late. Her career has soared from then. J Zinhle partnered with Nomndeni Mdaki in 2009 to launch The Firm Understanding of Sound Entertainment Academy (FUSE), the first DJing academy in South Africa that specifically targets female DJs.

DJ Soupamodel whose real name is Aderonke Ariyo was recently appointed as governor of The Grammys Recording Academy, Washington D.C Chapter. She is also known as Africa’s first female DJ. She has worked with Wizkid, Vector, Bennie Man, Wale, Tiwa Savage among others. She is known for her dexterity and sound mixes.
