Nokubonga Qampi was contacted in the middle of the night by a girl who knew her daughter. Her daughter, Siphokazi was being raped by three guys in the neighourhood.
“I was scared, but then I was forced to go because it was my daughter.
“I was thinking that when I get there, she might be dead… Because she knew the perpetrators, and because they knew her and knew she knows them, they might think they had to kill her so she couldn’t report them.” She told BBC.
Nokubonga picked up a knife in her kitchen and went ahead to defend her daughter’s honour. She stabbed the guys, two of them were seriously injured and one was killed.
She was later arrested but eventually she was freed. Now she is helping her daughter heal.
The bravery of this woman should be emulated, despite her fear, she found the courage to defend her daughter.
