What You Should Know About Burna Boy’s Mum

Strong African men are usually raised by strong African women. This is the case of the African Giant, Burna Boy.

His mum, Bose Ogulu AKA Mama Burna who also doubles as his manager is an amazing woman. From representing her son at the BET to other numerous accolades, he is the epitome of the African woman’s strength.

Here are a few things you might not know about her.

Her Father

Her father is Benson Idonije, a Nigerian broadcaster and music critic also popularly known for being the first band manager of Afrobeat musician Fela Kuti.

Humility

She raised her son with humility. This is what Burna Boy said in his Billboard interview “Nigerians love me a lot more now because they can see that the whole world likes me, too. They think I’m something special, but I’m not. I’m just a human whose skill is making music. Way I see it, everyone plays their own role in the world, and no role is more important than the other.”

Education

She has a Bachelors of Arts in foreign languages; she is fluent in French, Italian, German, Yoruba, and English. She also has a Master of Arts in translation and has worked as a translator for the Federation of West African Chambers of Commerce.

French Lecturer

She taught French for 10 years at the University of Education in Port Harcourt.

On Parenting

Her quote, “I still am, friends with my parents. We were friends. So, I learned to be friends with my children. It’s a tough balance. Because, you have to whoop their backsides as well. And then, know when to sleep.”
